AFREEGRI: Strategic Meeting for the Future of Agriculture in Cameroon

The meetings held on Tuesday, August 13, and Wednesday, August 14, in Yaoundé, under the chairmanship of the CEO of AFREEGRI, based in Yaoundé Etoameki, focused on updating the AFREEGRI project. These meetings brought together financial experts and engineers to discuss and develop solutions for the smooth operation of AFREEGRI’s activities.

The objective was for the CEO, his technical team, and the various stakeholders to assess the progress of the reforms initiated since the launch of AFREEGRI’s activities up to the present day.

The discussions covered various topics, including website development and graphic design, communication and marketing strategies, distribution channels, business plan development, agricultural strategies, and financial review. The aim was to determine the level of progress for each of these activities.

Additionally, there was a need to present to the stakeholders the progress of the activities, as well as to showcase the AFREEGRI website, which will require modifications to improve the user experience, thereby guiding different users according to their needs.

Representatives from the regional bank and the engineers present took turns to discuss a potential regional strategy and, more importantly, to explore the conditions under which long-term support could be provided to farmers. The regional bank’s representative suggested that the ideal approach would be to closely monitor the activities of the farmers.

One of the challenges highlighted was the need to address the issue of product quality and price, particularly in a context where Cameroonian farmers have limited resources. It is essential to find a balance between product quality and pricing that is competitive or potentially lower, as Cameroonian consumers desire good quality at an affordable price.

Despite concerns about long-term soil degradation, the CEO of AFREEGRI, Mr. Armand BYAMHA NGADOU, reassured stakeholders that prolonged use of these fertilizers would improve soil quality.

Finally, the experts acknowledged the comprehensive nature of the fertilizers that AFREEGRI plans to market in Cameroon.

At the end of the meeting, the CEO expressed his ambition to bring the first container of products for commercialization to Cameroon by the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2024.
